Week 5

Week 5: Background and Existing Solutions Research

After the meeting with Dr. Hammill and Jeff Chininis on September 20th, the team started

extensive research on the following areas: current pancreatic drainage bag, protein markers

that can be detected in patient’s pancreatic fluid, and other physiological parameters that are useful for monitoring patient’s health and recovery.

We brainstormed solutions to the following problems:

(1) How can the patients be notified when their bag is full?

(2) How to maintain stable suction force of the drainage?

(3) A new drainage bag design for convenience and comfortability?

Not only do we address the medical issues, we also look into a solution for pancreatic post-

surgery drainage that does its job well and is comfortable to put on for long hours.
