The team researched on the potential chemical reactions that may be used for measuring pH and ruled out the route because they are not accurate and only of one-time usage. We also looked for low-tech pH sensors for plants and found out them are not suitable for pure liquid.

We further searched on temperature sensors in case that pH measurement does not work out. We found a sensor with 0.5-degree Celsius sensitivity and emailed Dr. Hammil for his opinion. The group will meet again on Friday to assemble the Arduino board for the liquid volume sensors.

The teamfilled out the quote request for the optical pH sensor on the company website. We heard back on Thursday that the optical sensor requires other components from the company and the total cost is above $3000. The team decides to search for alternative methods, e.g. chemical reactions, to measure the pH.

The team had a meeting on Jan. 16 and discussed the purchase of the optical pH sensor. We will test out the two volume sensors that have arrived. The team met with Joe on Jan. 17 regarding concerns about the project. We will research on chemical methods to measure pH, in case that the optical sensor does not work out.
